Dwight's Restaurant
About This Spot
Dwight’s Restaurant unfolds like a beloved neighborhood gathering spot where comfort and Cajun tradition blend effortlessly. Located just off Johnston Street in Lafayette, the moment you step inside, there’s an unhurried, welcoming rhythm that draws you into a casual, almost cafeteria-style setting filled with the hum of conversation and the inviting aroma of wood-smoked barbecue and simmering gumbo.
The pace here is relaxed but lively, a true reflection of a community kitchen where every dish seems to carry a story. It’s a place where locals wind down over generous plates of fried crawfish, meatball fricassee, or a hearty pork steak, served alongside staples like homemade baked beans and crusty French bread. The atmosphere feels grounded — as if the walls have absorbed decades of friendly exchanges, family meals, and shared celebrations.
Dwight’s isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about honoring the rich, robust flavors of Cajun cooking with straightforward authenticity. Whether you’re savoring a plate of shrimp and okra gumbo or the famed ribs and brisket, each bite reflects a balance of spice, smoke, and seasoning that speaks to a kitchen rooted in Southern Louisiana’s culinary heritage.
Service here moves with genuine warmth, balancing efficiency with a sincere attentiveness, even as the lunch crowd steadily fills the room. It’s the kind of place where familiar faces nod hello and newcomers quickly find themselves enveloped in the local rhythm. From the simple joy of fried mushrooms to the satisfying depth of a Sunday BBQ plate, Dwight’s Restaurant feels less like a stop on a map and more like a spot where the spirit of Lafayette can be tasted and felt in every meal.

We were in town for the voodoo hockey game so we looked online and found this place. The mushrooms and pork skins were amazing. The crawfish was pretty good but I wasn't a huge fan of the dusting and they were pretty hard to peel. Other than that, everything was fantastic, prices are very reasonable. We had pork skins, fried mushrooms and 3lbs of crawfish for $38. Service was amazing, everyone was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Was much bigger inside than we thought from looking at the front of the building. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in town.

Wow !! This was a great lunch!! First off, I was not aware of the style - I guess you might call it Cafeteria Style We got there just about 11 with no issue parking, and no waiting. By the time we left the line was respectfully long and the parking lot full. This is quite a popular place with the locals, and now I see why ! The food is just great - very much home style and what one might call "comfort food." I am from out of town and not familiar with what daily or weekly specials they have, but today's visit was just great. Def a place a roll visit again! The dining area is huge and can easily accommodate bigger parties, or even a party of one..... I love the decor here ( see photos). Very relaxing and lotsa older knick knacks.

So, I wanted some bbq, but they didn’t have much left. The Sunday crowd wiped them out. I know Dwight’s is consistently good..I’ve been several times. They didn’t have macaroni, so I just ordered a piece of chicken. I almost fell on the floor when it rang up at 7.50. No way is a piece of chicken worth that…very disappointing.

I had the shrimp stew with fired fish, Broccoli and cheese, roll. The food was amazing, perfectly seasoned, hot and delicious . The Customer serivce was friendly and respectful. There wasn't a long wait at all. The prices where definitely fair for all the food you get. We went during lunch time and yes they where busy, yet it was peaceful inside as we enjoyed our lunch.

We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host and I am very glad we followed up on it. This is a brilliant lunch place. Lots of choice. amazing portions. The BBQ pork chop was delicious. I got banana pudding as a side. My wife had the fried mushrooms and she said that they were the best she ever had. The staff were super friendly and helpful as well.

Today I visited for the very first time. I must say who you have at your front counter makes all the difference. The lady was so welcoming and helpful. We had the 1/2 Etoufee and 1/2 fried fish and the Etoufee potato it was amazing! My 8 yr old scrapped the plate clean and I’m an Etoufee lover and many people get it wrong but Dwight’s has it down packed!
